Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and relaxation. You’ve already experienced similar states when you become absorbed in a book, music, a creative activity or a familiar journey. Hypno-therapy is using this natural state, when the unconscious mind is open to positive suggestion, to give therapeutic support to help overcome symptoms/challenges or make positive changes in your life. It is an approach which can support you to manage symptoms and emotional issues in a natural and supportive way, which increases your sense of control and confidence.

During hypnotherapy, you are guided into a comfortable, relaxed state while focusing on imagery, ideas and suggestions relevant to the goals agreed for the session. You  remain aware and in control throughout.

I hold the Medical Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy from LCCH International (London College of Clinical Hypnosis / LSCCH UK) and have nearly 20 years’ experience as a Hypnotherapist.

Appointments are available face-to-face in Winchester or online and where appropriate, you may also receive a personalised recording to use at home.

Hypnotherapy can be helpful for:

  • Stress, anxiety, fears and phobias

  • Sleep difficulties and insomnia

  • Persistent pain and physical discomfort

  • IBS and other functional digestive symptoms

  • Fatigue and low energy

  • Menopause and other hormonal transitions

  • Pregnancy and childbirth preparation

  • Weight management, emotional eating and habit change

  • Confidence, emotional resilience and self-esteem

  • Coping with long-term health conditions and their emotional impact

What happens at an appointment?

Your appointment begins with time to talk about what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from hypnotherapy. I will explain the process and make sure that you feel comfortable before we begin.

The hypnotherapy usually involves sitting or lying comfortably while I guide you through relaxation, focused attention, imagery and positive suggestions. The approach is collaborative and can be adapted according to what feels comfortable for you and you remain in control thoroughout.

We work at a pace and in a way that feels right for you, suggestions are always empowering and based around your goals for the session.

Most people can experience the relaxed, focused state used in hypnotherapy. There is no 'right' way to do it, and you don't need to enter a deep trance for the session to be helpful. Even if you've tried hypnotherapy before without success, or worry that you won't be able to relax or be hypnotised, we can adapt the approach to find what works best for you.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your concerns, goals and response to hypnotherapy. As a general guide:

  • Simple fears and phobias: 1–3 sessions

  • Stopping smoking: Usually one longer appointment (up to 2 hours)

  • Stress, anxiety, confidence and emotional wellbeing: Around 4–6 sessions

  • Sleep difficulties, IBS, persistent pain and other health concerns: Around 4–6 sessions

  • Longstanding emotional difficulties or past experiences: Sometimes 6 or more sessions

  • Ongoing wellbeing support: Some people choose occasional follow-up sessions to maintain progress.

These are only guidelines. We'll discuss what feels appropriate for you and review progress together, with no obligation to commit to a set number of appointments.

Please note: Hypnotherapy is a complementary approach that can support both physical and emotional wellbeing alongside conventional medical care. It does not replace medical assessment or treatment, and any ongoing medical care should continue as advised by your healthcare professionals.
